Pawsitive Experiences & New Adventures

One of our team members recently accompanied a young person on a visit to a cat café in Romsey. From the moment they arrived, the young person demonstrated a high level of enthusiasm and engagement, taking a keen interest in their surroundings and excitedly observing the cats as they relaxed and interacted throughout the café.

During the visit, a particularly friendly cat approached the table, jumped up, and settled beside the young person, seeking attention. The young person responded positively to this interaction and appeared to thoroughly enjoy spending time with the cat. They quickly became more confident in engaging with the animals and began talking enthusiastically about the different cats they could see.

After ordering food and drinks, they spent time reading the information cards provided about the individual cats. The young person showed genuine curiosity and interest in learning about their different personalities and characteristics. They particularly enjoyed identifying and discussing their favourite cats. They also found the cats' behaviour entertaining, especially when one repeatedly meowed at a customer eating a tuna sandwich, seemingly hoping to be offered some.

A particularly positive aspect of the visit was the young person's ability to remain relaxed and comfortable throughout the experience. They demonstrated confidence in an unfamiliar environment and were willing to engage with both the animals and their surroundings. The experience provided a valuable opportunity to support their social communication, confidence, independence, and willingness to participate in a new activity.

At the end of the visit, the young person shared that it was "one of the nicest places they had ever been." It was very positive to hear them express such a strong sense of enjoyment and satisfaction following the activity.

Overall, the visit was a highly positive and meaningful experience. It enabled the young person to explore a new environment, develop confidence through positive social and sensory experiences, and engage in an activity that was clearly enjoyable and personally motivating for them.

The Power of Appreciation: Celebrating Our Team, Families and Community

At Yellow Brick Road Projects, we know that our people are our greatest strength. That's why we were delighted to bring our team and their families together for our End of Term BBQ at Finkley Down Farm.

The afternoon gave us the opportunity to pause, reflect and celebrate everything we have achieved together over the past year. One of the most memorable moments was when each team member shared something they appreciated about their colleagues. The messages recognised kindness, dedication, resilience and the many strengths that make YBRP such a special place to work. It was heartfelt, emotional and a powerful reminder of the value we bring to one another.

What made it even more meaningful was that our families were there to hear those affirmations too. Our loved ones support us behind the scenes every day, so it was wonderful for them to hear first-hand the positive impact each team member has on our organisation and the young people we support.

Families are at the heart of everything we do, both in our work and within our team. Watching children enjoy water fights, ice creams and a delicious BBQ brought plenty of smiles, laughter and fun. There were certainly some soggy clothes and full tummies by the end of the day!

Throughout the year, we create opportunities for our team to come together, whether through wellbeing days, our Christmas meal or our annual summer BBQ. These moments help strengthen relationships, encourage connection and provide space to share laughter, food and encouragement.

As we begin another busy year, we're grateful for the incredible people who make YBRP what it is. Together, we're building a supportive, caring culture that enables us to make a lasting difference in the lives of children and young people across our communities.
